Membership Benefits

As a Ketchikan Visitors Bureau (KVB) member, you benefit from a range of marketing opportunities. The KVB actively participates in regional, state and national/international marketing of Ketchikan as a visitor destination. Once we've secured the interest of travelers, we offer members a variety of ways to promote their products and services.

MEMBERSHIP BASICS:

Our membership year begins July 1st. Businesses who join after January 1 of each year will be prorated. Each member receives:

  • "Classic Listing" on www.visit-ketchikan.com. Includes company name, address, phone, email, web site and 250 characters of ad copy (see "Web Site Advertising" link on the left side of this page to purchase additional advertising)
  • Complementary Special Offer ad on www.visit-ketchikan.com (see "Special Offer Information" link on the left side of this page for more info.)
  • "Basic Listing" in our annual Visitor Guide. Includes company name, address, phone, email, web site and optional marketing symbols
  • 9" x 4" rack card space for brochure display at our Berth 2 & Berth 3 Visitor Information Center locations
  • Optional participation in our annual Media Pass Program
  • Invitations to KVB-sponsored events, including membership luncheons, annual awards banquet, etc.
  • Business promotion opportunities to target meetings, conventions and special events visitors
  • Complimentary subscription to our Fast Facts e-newsletter, produced monthly October-April and bi-monthly May-September

KVB Web Site

www.visit-ketchikan.com can be accessed globally and is typically ranked #1 in major search engine results. Members receive $125.00 credit toward a listing in the available category of your choice. This credit covers a "Classic Listing" as mentioned above. For additional, paid web site advertising opportunities, click on the "Web Site Advertising" link on the left.

Annual Visitor Guide

The Experience Ketchikan, Alaska Area Guide is the KVB's official travel planner produced annually. 125,000 printed copies are distributed to visitors, potential visitors and travel agents. A online version is available on this web site for an even greater reach. Members receive a free basic listing (see description in bullet point above) and can purchase display or narrative ads to increase business exposure in the guide.

Brochure Distribution

All members receive space for one 9" x 4" brochure at the KVB’s Berth 2 (open year-round) and Berth 3 (open seasonally) Visitor Information Centers. We can accept quantities of up to 500 and our staff will contact you when additional brochures are needed. If you would like to participate in our paid brochure distribution program, we will distribute your brochures to the following locations: Berth 2 and 3 Visitor Information Centers, Ketchikan International Airport, Alaska Marine Highway Ferry Terminal, Inter-Island Ferry Authority (onboard), Southeast Alaska Discovery Center, Clover Pass Resort & R.V. Park (seasonal), The Narrows Inn, Best Western Plus Landing, Super 8 Motel, Gilmore Hotel, Cape Fox Lodge, Promech Air and Taquan Air. Space in the paid distribution program is limited. Direct Line Reservation Phone Service (DLR)

This is a paid member program for those who want visitors to be able to reach them from one or all of the following three locations: Ketchikan International Airport, Alaska Marine Highway Ferry Terminal and the Berth 2 Visitor Information Center. This service is ideal for hotels, car rentals, tour operators and retailers. Members who sign up for all three locations receive a discount. 

Alaska Host Training

KVB staff are trained to provide the state’s AlaskaHost customer service program. Training is offered in the spring, just prior to the onset of the visitor season and is available upon request to groups of 8-15. This program is an excellent resource for front-line employees, those new to the visitor industry, or anyone who seeks to provide customer service skills to their staff. KVB members are charged a nominal fee to cover the cost of the training kits. Call the KVB for more information.

FAM Trip Sponsorship/Media Pass

Members interested in offering complimentary services can sign up to participate in FAM trip programs or be included on our annual media pass at no charge. Familiarization trips are provided to travel writers, film and TV producers, photographers and key travel industry personnel. The KVB hosts about a dozen such trips each year.

Resource Library

The KVB maintains a photo library for member use in developing brochures. Although our current photo library is limited, members are free to review our collection of travel and trade publications, trade show schedules, local, state and regional surveys and economic data, industry trade group information and more.

Inquiry Labels

For $.07 per label, members can sign up to capture visitor mailing addresses (via self-adhesive mailing labels) specific to the visitor's area of interest. For more information about this program and for a list of visitor interest categories, please contact KVB staff.
