Visitor Information Clerk
WORK SCHEDULE: Part-time, seasonal employee
REPORTS TO: Visitor Services Manager
SUPERVISES: This position does not have supervisory responsibility over staff
SALARY: $17.00 – $20.00 per hour, DOE
BENEFITS: Eligible for overtime pay
Mission Statement: Ketchikan Visitors Bureau’s mission is to promote Ketchikan, attract visitors, and enhance
the economy.
POSITION OBJECTIVE
Visitor Information Clerks (VICs) are responsible for welcoming visitors to the Ketchikan Visitor Bureau’s visitor
centers, providing information and assistance to the public, and helping maintain the KVB’s visitor information
center facilities.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Direct visitors to local tours, attractions, sights, fishing charters, restaurants, post office, etc.
- Answer various questions about Ketchikan, the southeast region, and the state of Alaska.
- Interpret the Walking Tour Map and be knowledgeable of points of interest.
- Provide aid to travelers and others in need of assistance.
- Perform opening and closing procedures of the KVB building (flags, lights, locks) when necessary.
- Assist as needed in fulfilling visitor information requests.
- Assist in keeping brochure racks filled and report when reorder is required.
- Perform tasks as required to maintain the cleanliness and neat appearance of the visitor information
center, restrooms, and exterior of the building. - Read and adhere to policies and procedures as outlined in VIC Procedures Manual.
- Perform other duties as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS
- The VIC applicant should be kind and patient and maintain a pleasant personality.
- Must be 18 or older.
- Enjoy interacting with people in person.
- Present and maintain a professional attitude and appearance.
- Possess effective written and oral communication skills.
- Excel in customer service skills.
- Must be reliable and self-motivated.
- Possess extensive knowledge of the local area and visitor services and attractions.
- Identify attractions, events, and services in Ketchikan.
- Able to operate a variety of office equipment (phone, fax, copier, etc.)
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Ketchikan Visitors Bureau is a non-profit organization that can employ up to five full-time, year-round staff and five seasonal staff. The seasonal staff and Visitor Services Manager work in the visitor centers at Berth 2 and Berth 3, while all other staff work from the administrative office at 50 Front Street in downtown Ketchikan. The
KVB is a business/business casual office environment.
